Kiwi’s First Vet Appointment

Kiwi at vetsKiwi has been rescued, and she is stable.  As you can see, her eye is severely infected/abscessed, and has a lot of pus.  We cleaned her eye and made sure she was properly treated with pain medication and antibiotics.  She is eating and urinating, but no poops yet.  Click through her album to see just how small and cute she is.  She is very small (only 2.2 pounds), fuzzy, and brown, so we named her Kiwi!

At today’s vet visit, Dr. Tiffany Margolin confirmed what we suspected: Kiwi has a retro-bulbar abscess.  She further cleaned the eye with warm saline, gave a full exam, and took cranial radiographs.  She is such a good little patient!  We think she already feels safe and better, and knows we are trying to help her.

Kiwi will be on pain meds, eye ointment, and antibiotics protocol and her recheck is coming this Friday.  She will eventually need surgery to reeve the abscess, but we want to clear up some of the infection and inflammation first.  Hoping she does not lose the eye.

We do not know what her total medical expenses will be, but we know we need help to care for her.  Her first bill is posted in her album, and does not include drugs already on hand that will need replacing.
