Petition for Humane Cosmetics Act
Cruelty Free International has organized a petition to call upon the members of US House of Representatives to co-sponsor the Humane Cosmetics Act, introduced by US Representative Jim Moran (D-VA). From their petition:
Rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice and rats are routinely injected, gassed, force-fed and killed for cosmetics testing worldwide.
We believe this is ethically unacceptable and unnecessary.
Both consumers and scientists are increasingly skeptical about the necessity and validity of animal testing for cosmetics and, with good reason – modern alternatives are cheaper, faster, and can better predict human reactions.
As a rabbit rescue, we abhor the use of animals in product testing, and strongly encourage you to support this petition. Please spread the word and help put an end to this cruel and pointless practice. We had previously highlighted a report in Scientific American Forum regarding the expensive, slow, and inconclusive method brought on by animal testing in cosmetics.
Before you purchase cosmetics, please consider where they come from and whether they were tested on animals. The Leaping Bunny Program provides good information about how to go cruelty-free.
