WHAT IS RHDV2?
Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus (RHDV) is a highly contagious disease caused by a calicivirus that affects rabbits. It infects both wild and domesticated rabbits.
Symptoms may include:

  • Sudden death (no symptoms)
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lethargy
  • High fever
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Seizures
  • Bleeding from nose, mouth, or rectum

RHDV2 is generally a sudden killer, giving little or no warning. It is common for rabbits to die without showing any symptoms. Any sudden rabbit death is suspicious and should be reported to your veterinarian immediately.
