Welcome Breezy

Please welcome little Breezy to the Zooh Corner Sanctuary Rabbit family. Breezy

Breezy came to us on Saturday, 10/31, and as you can see, he is a hot mess.

The very first thing we did was get some good pain meds on board, to help Breezy feel better.

On exam he is skinny and malnourished, had a lot of dried saliva matted around his face, front legs and abdomen, and scabbing around his eyes. Initial dental exam showed uneven and elongated molars. He has an enlarged heart. Liver, kidneys and urinary tract look good.

Skull rads show severe dental disease. He has a large abscess on his right jaw.

His bloodwork showed high white blood cells (as expected), due to infection, kidney and liver values good.

We gave his left upper molars a quick snip to help bring him more comfort and ability to eat, and most of the saliva-encrusted fur was shaved.

He has been started on pain medication, antibiotics, heart medication. He will be syringe fed as needed. And he will be given some time to feel better, gain weight, and get a little stronger before we attack that abscess.

He is going to be seen again this Wednesday, 11/4 to evaluate his progress.

He has a long way to go, but thanks to the pain medication, molar snip, and clipping off all that crusty fur, he is already feeling better.

He is little trooper for sure, and he already has our hearts. We will do everything we can to give him a decent quality of life for as long as possible. This is just the first day of the rest of his life. 💖🐰💖

For those interested, this is what we did today, over a couple hours so as not to overly stress him:
– exam
– full body radiographs
– skull radiographs
– bloodwork
– gentle shaving of the worst areas (from drool and dried drool) around his face, legs, and abdomen
– dental check under sedation (not anesthesia), with trimming some of those scary upper molars
