Goodbye Buddy Lee

On Monday, we had to say goodbye to Zooh Corner Sanctuary Rabbit, Buddy Lee. đź’”278969642_10227174478973009_7150244460173046403_n

Buddy Lee came to us in November, discarded at the shelter because she had become ill, after being someone’s backyard breeder rabbit. She was only eight years old. Unfortunately, she was not spayed. Upon subsequent spay and diagnostics, it was discovered that she had several inoperable cancerous tumors.

The good thing is that she was happy! She was happy to be free, have all the yummy hay and salads she wanted, her needs were being addressed, and she didn’t know she had anything wrong. That’s the way we wanted to keep it for as long as possible. She was even happily munching on carrots and oats, while in oxygen, up until nearly the end, when she fell into a deep sleep.

I am forever grateful that Buddy Lee made her way to the loving and caring hands of our VP, Susan, where she had everything she needed: Love, comfort, safety, a full belly, and time with bunny friends on the way to being bonded!

It is most especially heartbreaking when rabbits like Buddy Lee finally make it to a place of safety and happiness and are only able to stay for a short period of time. It’s so unfair. We are so sad that we had to say goodbye to her yesterday, but the cancer had metastasized to her chest and she was having a hard time breathing, even in oxygen.

Buddy Lee was beautiful, smart and learning to love her humans, who loved her. We are so grateful we had the chance to give her at least a little bit of the happiness she deserved in her life.

Binky In Peace, Buddy Lee. You are loved and you will be missed.
