The New York Times has recently posted an article featuring the House Rabbit Society of Richmond, CA.  They talk about the founding of the House Rabbit Society, and the ever-trying Easter season, where they pass on the Make Mine Chocolate message – discouraging rabbits as gifts for Easter.

As a 8-12 year commitment, rabbits require a lot more care than people typically expect. Because of this, it is common to find gift bunnies rejected and dumped in the weeks following Easter.  Rescues and shelters will have their hands full, so we encourage people to spread the Make Mine Chocolate message – to avoid unnecessary heartbreak, trauma, and death of gifted rabbits around Easter.
